I took the day off from work because we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary over the weekend and I didn’t do much riding so I am going to do it today. Since it was going to be just me I could put a few miles on and visit a couple Tour Of Honor sites. My plan is to go up to Prairie du Sac and Monroe Wisconsin and ride some good roads that I know and hit some I have not been on yet.
I got my Gazetteer out and went over my route and made changes to hit roads I don’t remember riding on. Working my way to Shirland, Illinois riding and crossing over to Wisconsin, I take Route K to 81 west to T north, this will take you on the outskirts of Brodhead, WI. I usually will ride on Route E just north of Brodhead which is a nice curvy road and take that to Monticello but today I am going north on T and it turns into 104. If you like straight hilly roads (roller coaster) this is one you will like. Before I got to the town of Brooklyn I turned west on Amidon Rd as a short cut to Route 92. I have not ridden 92 before but this is a nice road with some really good curves and scenery, I liked it. I took 92 to Mount Horeb where I got on Route 78 North and took that all the way to Prairie du Sac for a Tour Of Honor site. I have been on 78 many times before and if you haven’t you should, curvy, hilly at times with great scenery and it’s a main road so it is in good shape every time I have ridden on it.
From here I am going to work my way to Monroe, Wisconsin. I head south on 78, I’m just glad that this is a good road to ride because I usually don’t like to ride the same way to and from some place but I didn’t mind riding 78 again. In Mount Horeb I got on Route JG this is another one I don’t remember riding on. It turns into J just west of New Glarus (great brewery) and I have been on that. Both JG and J are good Wisconsin curvy and hilly back roads, but there were parts of JG that had potholes and was beat up. I do recommend it though. I took J until it ended at Route 81 on the west side of Monroe, I went east on 81 for a few minutes and on the corner of 81 and Route N was my next Tour Of Honor site. By the way Route N is highly recommended by every one that has rode their motorcycle on it.
From Monroe I worked my way to Durand, Illinois jumping on Route 11 east to Route S south by Juda to Rock Grove Rd, besides Route 11 everything else is nice quiet back roads. After filling up in Durand I worked my way home, 293 miles and found a couple of good roads.
